If you’re considering a swimming pool, spa or any similar setup on your property, this is a significant investment that you’ll want to be sure you have proper assistance for. This means finding a great pool contractor in your area — what are the key qualities you should be considering as you go about this process?
At Packman’s Pools, we’re proud to offer the best swimming pool design, swimming pool construction and related spa services for clients throughout Utah. We also welcome comparisons of our services to others in our industry — both because we want all our clients to get the very best services for their needs, and because we’re quite confident we’re the ones best-suited to provide these. What are some of the key qualities that any great pool contractor should possess, at a minimum, before you hire them? This two-part blog series will go through several.
Full Licensure and Insurance
First and foremost, a requisite for any pool contractor you’re considering hiring should be that they’re fully licensed and insured. In Utah, this includes both business licenses as well as the requisite individual contractor licenses for those working on your project.
You can check with the Better Business Bureau (BBB) to see if there are any complaints against a potential contractor, and always request proof of both business and individual licenses as well as insurance before you sign any contract. If a contractor is unwilling or unable to provide these, move on quickly to the next one on your list.
A Solid Reputation in the Community
Next, take some time to ask around about potential contractors you’re considering. Talk to friends, family members and others in your community who have had pools, spas or similar setups designed and installed on their property. How did they feel about the contractor they used? Would they recommend them?
You can also check online review sites to see what others have said about a potential contractor’s work. But always take these with a grain of salt, as it’s often easy for a contractor to post their own fake positive reviews — or even to pay others to do so. A much better bet is to ask around in person and get recommendations from people you trust.
A Quality Portfolio of Past Work
When you’re meeting with potential contractors, always ask to see examples of their past work. A reputable contractor will be more than happy to show you some of the projects they’ve completed, and will likely even have a portfolio or other professional way of displaying this work.
This is a great way to get an idea of their design style, as well as the quality of their craftsmanship. If they’re unwilling or unable to provide examples of past projects, that’s definitely a red flag — move on to the next contractor on your list.
In part two of our series, we’ll continue discussing key qualities to look for in a great pool contractor. Stay tuned! In the meantime, if you’re in need of any swimming pool or spa services in Utah, be sure to contact Packman’s Pools today.
