There are a few materials that are regularly utilized today for swimming pool construction, and one that’s increasing in popularity with each passing year is known as gunite. This material is a mixture of a few different elements, and it’s one that’s used not only for swimming pools, but also in many other areas of construction.
At Packman’s Pools, we’re happy to offer a wide array of custom-built gunite swimming pools and spas for our Salt Lake City clients. We can build your custom gunite pool to any size and customization needs, plus will help you with all the filters and additional accessories you may need. What exactly is gunite, and why is it so valuable as a swimming pool construction product? This two-part blog series will go over everything you need to know.
Gunite Basics
Gunite, as we alluded to above, is a mixture of cement, sand and water. It is typically applied through a pressure hose, producing a hard, dense layer of concrete as the final product.
This concrete output is then used in a variety of ways, including not only swimming pools but also various lining tunnels, structural repairs and various other uses. Although it’s quickly becoming more and more popular, gunite is actually an old construction technique that’s been around for decades.
Our next several sections will go over why gunite is so beneficial as a pool construction product.
Full Control Over Shape and Size
Because the process we just went over allows for full customization of a final product, gunite pools can be constructed to any size and shape a customer wishes. This means that if you’re building a pool on the side of a hill, for example, it will be much easier to construct with gunite as opposed to traditional concrete or fiberglass pool construction.
Another major benefit is the freedom of creativity over design. Customers won’t have to worry about whether or not their potential pool design will come across well in concrete or fiberglass, because gunite allows for it.
Wide Array of Finishes
Gunite plaster finishes are available in a huge range of colors and styles, and this is another reason why it’s becoming more and more popular as a swimming pool construction product. The most common finishes are the white plaster finish, but there are also brighter colors such as pink, yellow and green available too.
In addition to this, you can also choose from a number of different designs on any custom gunite pool project you have with us at Packman’s Pools. From dramatic waterfall features to intricate tile design, we can provide just about anything you want.
